For my people have committed two evil: they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of Living waters, and they have hewn for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns which cannot hold water. Jeremiah 2:13
What a strong comparison made by God here.
Fountain: is a body from where water flows, a continuous flow of water. God adds …. living water, comparing to what Jesus says in John 4, while speaking to the Samaritan woman – ‘ living water such that we thirst no more.’
God says, this we have forsaken and instead sought for cistern – a vessel that has limited capacity. Happiness that lasts only for a while. Pleasures that gives momentary happiness, anything that the world gives us that has a very limited means. Furthermore God says – ‘cistern’ – that’s broken and thus cannot even hold any water.
What a foolish and ignorant choice !!!!
Forsaking the ‘ Fountain of living water’ and replacing it with a cistern that too broken.
Time and again, throughout the day, this is the choice we get to make – what are we going to choose Today?
– the Fountain of Living water
– cistern that is broken and cannot hold water.
Is your life so instable that you cannot hold it. Does it seem to be slipping away from you? Then it would be good to see if you have earnestly sought to depend on ‘the Fountain of Living water ‘ or the broken cistern !!
This is a question put to me as well….!!!
